For many owners today, that model no longer fits everyday life. Time is limited, life is often spread across several places, and boats tend to be used far less than expected. The passion for boating and life at sea remains unchanged. The question is no longer whether ownership is desirable, but whether it is reasonable.

Smart Boat Ownership is Agapi’s answer to that question. It does not change what ownership means. It changes how ownership is managed — so that you, as an owner, keep things under control, on your terms, and without unnecessary friction.

In this model, the owner owns the boat in full and decides when, and to what extent, the boat may be used by Agapi Boat Club.

Choice in personal use

The owner’s own use always comes first. When you want to use the boat, those dates are planned in advance, take priority, and are reserved accordingly.

There is no competition for availability and no uncertainty around access. The boat remains available whenever you choose to use it, subject only to practical planning.

This preserves the core satisfaction of ownership — the freedom to use your own boat when you want it.

Choice in cost offsetting

Owning a boat involves both fixed and variable costs, regardless of how much it is used. What differs in this model is how much of those costs you choose to offset.

As the owner, you decide how many hours per year the boat may be used within Agapi Boat Club. Each hour of Club use generates agreed compensation that contributes to covering operating and maintenance costs.

Some owners prefer to limit Club use and maximize private time on the water. Others allow more usage to reduce net ownership costs over time. Both approaches are equally valid.

The key point is that cost offsetting is entirely owner-driven and applied only to the extent it makes economic sense to you.

Choice in who uses the boat

When the boat is used within the Club, it is done under structured and controlled conditions.

Agapi manages customer selection, onboarding, and approval for specific boat types. Members are expected to act responsibly and with respect for the boats they use, and all usage follows defined procedures and routines.

If Agapi assesses that a member does not have sufficient experience for a particular boat, an Agapi-approved professional skipper is required and assigned. All charter trips are conducted with a mandatory skipper.

This ensures the boat is used in a predictable, well-managed environment and protects the asset in a way that is fundamentally different from open and public rental models.

Choice in usage level and depreciation

Depreciation is influenced by time, usage, and maintenance. While engine hours play a role, age and overall condition are often more significant factors over the lifespan of a boat.

By deciding how many hours per year the boat is made available within the Club, the owner also determines how usage affects wear and depreciation.

The boat ages regardless of use. Structured usage combined with regular maintenance helps keep that process under control.

This keeps depreciation within defined and predictable boundaries, aligned with the owner’s intentions.

Condition and resale value

Agapi manages the operation and maintenance of the boat on an ongoing basis. Regular inspections, servicing, and oversight are part of the Smart Boat Ownership setup.

Boats that are used and maintained consistently tend to remain in better condition than boats left idle without supervision.

When the owner decides to sell, Agapi can assist with preparation, presentation, and resale. This includes ensuring the boat is in optimal condition for the market and handling the process in an organized and professional way.

This preserves value and allows ownership to transition smoothly when the owner chooses to change or renew their setup.
