Our first Micro Club in the Bahamas — what a place!

I was extremely fortunate, both with the weather forecast for the following day, as well as the fact that Jamie and his family could join the trip — a good thing, as the journey from Freeport to Hope Town is more than 130 nautical miles through new and very shallow waters. And I mean shallow. Had I done that trip alone, I’d probably still be there, creeping along with the engines tilted up at a few knots. Jamie knew the waters — and what a trip it was.

Six hours through a true boater’s paradise, with a lunch stop on a pristine beach. Stingrays, turtles, crystal-clear water, and depths rarely exceeding two metres. Simply unforgettable.

We had promised our boat investor to arrive at 15:00, and at exactly 15:00 we tied up at the dock, where he and his wife were waiting. His wife exclaimed, surprised, “How big she is!” while our partner quietly leaned over and told me the boat actually looks smaller in the water… 😉

After a wonderful 48 hours of onboarding, I left Abaco feeling that we had gained two genuinely great relationships. The first was my new “big brother” — our new partner — who, despite the delays, loved the boat and is eager to continue building our ambitions in the Bahamas. The second was the boat herself: the Axopar 29 Sun Top — a lovely new acquaintance and a perfect little sister to the 37 ST.
