The Introduction – Now a Fully-Fledged Member
Eager to use his new-found skills, earlier this week Franny went out on the water with Mark Williams, the Premier Agapi Boat Club Manager, to get a feel for the Ring 680, one of the models in the Agapi fleet.
On dry land, he was given a ‘members’ introduction,’ which is a comprehensive induction to the members’ online booking system – so he can manage and book out any of the boats included in his membership package. It was also a chance for him to become acquainted with the safety equipment, radio systems, and navigational equipment on each of the fleet.
Also, with the opportunity to experience driving the boat (with some supervision from Mark) Franny glided through the following manoeuvres and exercises; mooring up, turning the boat in a confined space, picking up a swinging mooring, passage planning, and man over board.
“It was great to be back behind the wheel, getting a feel for the boat” said Franny. Though cold, it was calm on the water (the perfect conditions I’ve been told!) and I was able to poodle along taking in the sights. It was re-assuring having Mark there to answer any questions, however, this refresher following my Powerboat Level 2 training, was more about familiarising myself with the steering/controls and I guess building up my confidence to feel comfortable and safe in taking the boat out on my own – I genuinely feel ready.”
With the basics confidently covered off, Mark was delighted to formally sign-up Franny as an active member of the club – leaving Franny ready to go out boating on his own!
